ENTRY OF APPEARANCE
It is recommended that you enter your appearance for your client as soon as possible and to file an “Entry of Appearance” with the court prior to the scheduled court date.
DISCOVERY
The Basehor Municipal Court has a standard form that must be completed when entering your motion. Once completed and signed by the Judge, the court clerk will proceed with processing. You will then be notified by the police clerk of the cost. Once paid, the discovery will be mailed to you.
COURT APPEARANCE
Since our prosecutor is part-time, he does not have set office hours for meeting with defense attorneys and our court does not have a formal “attorney plea docket”. The prosecutor does set aside 30 minutes prior to the start of court to meet and discuss cases with attorneys. Some of your questions can be handled by the court clerk, so feel free to call or email the court clerk.
CONTINUANCES
If a hearing needs to be continued, file a written motion accompanied with an order (both signed by you) to the court clerk at least 24 hours prior to the hearing. Please provide a list of dates when you are available for the new hearing, otherwise, it will be set for the next Court date. The motion and order can either be faxed or emailed to the court.
WITHDRAW AS COUNSEL
Should you desire to withdraw from a case, you should consult the Supreme Court Rule 117 and comply with its provisions.
