158th Street and Parallel Road Improvement Project

The City of Basehor wishes to provide a project schedule update for improvements at 158th and Parallel. We would like to thank the community for their continued patience with these road improvements, especially the property owners who live in the project area. Below are the updates. 

• Due to utility conflicts outside of the City’s control, the project is delayed and is now expected to be completed by July 31, 2026, or sooner. Community members may have noticed there were multiple weeks with minimal on-site activity. Please know that even though you may not have seen on-site activity, the City was working very hard with KDOT, the general contractor, and the utility provider to resolve the issues. 

• The entire construction area will be open to thru traffic before December 31, 2025. Because we are now approaching harsh winter weather months, KDOT has approved the general contractor to institute a winter shutdown. The contractor will still be in the area over the winter months performing work – but no roadway work will be completed during this time. 

• The area in blue will be open to thru traffic before December 31, 2025. This area will receive finish grade asphalt and final striping in the Spring, but will remain open through the end of the project. 

• To promote continued safety, the sidewalks and trails in the project area will remain closed. When using trails and sidewalks, please observe all safety signs, and do not proceed on a sidewalk or trail beyond any signage indicating closures. 

• In early Spring, road construction will resume. The remaining small segments will be subject to full closures, and the City will release the new phasing plan/schedule for those closures once we have them. 

• This delay will not increase the project cost. As a reminder, the City received $5.1 million in grant funding from the Mid America Regional Council (MARC) for these improvements. These grant dollars were awarded through a competitive process.

Again, we would like to thank the community for their patience during this time. Road construction is never fun to navigate – and we appreciate the community’s understanding that if we want nice roads, we occasionally will have to deal with the frustrations of road construction together.
