Storm Shelter
When a severe storm is forecasted we start monitoring its activity and movement through our dispatch system and emergency management personnel. Once a storm has developed and is approaching the Basehor area and has been identified as being potentially capable of producing high winds or tornadoes we open up the shelter.
The shelter is located in the basement of city hall and can accessed by entering through the doors of our court room. Our animal control officer or a patrol officer will be at this location to guide residents to the shelter. The shelter is equipped with emergency lights, blankets, water, some snacks, restrooms and seating for citizens seeking shelter.
Our shelter is typically open only during severe weather however, if a resident felt the need to seek shelter we would be willing to open it up based on the circumstances. If this service was desired outside of normal severe weather procedures the citizen would need to call 913-724-1313 and request the assistance from one of our officers. We would then respond to them and provide whatever service was needed.
For questions you may contact the Basehor Police department at 913-724-3387 ext. 30 from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
