The Building Safety Department staff assures the public's health, safety, and welfare in the city's built environment, while facilitating construction and development as well as ensuring new construction complies with all adopted construction codes. This division of the Planning and Zoning Department issues building permits and conducts building inspections. The codes division is also responsible for the enforcement of all Municipal Codes relating to property maintenance.

Commericial Construction Building Projects 
All commercial building plans are sent out for independent review, these reviews take approximately 5-10 business days. Comments are then received back to the Building Safety Department and distributed to the applicant.
Three (3) sets of complete plans must be submitted. These plans must contain complete site plans, storm water information and complete building details.

Requesting Building Inspections 
All inspections including sewer must be requested no less than 4 hours in advance. The inspector will try to arrive as quickly as possible. Please provide the address, type of inspection required, requested time of inspection as well as a return phone number.

All sewer connection inspections need to be scheduled through the Public Works Department 913-724-2000, they also require a 4 hour minimum time window.

Sewer Service

Effective May 1 of each year, the 2.5% increase for monthly sewer rates shall increase (Ordinance No. 626) from $11.72 per 1,000 gallons of water consumption to $12.01. All properties outside the city limits connected to the Basehor sewer system shall pay $18.02 per 1,000 gallons. Non annexed residences shall pay $15.02 per 1,000 gallons. Your monthly rate is based on a three-month average from your December 2015, January and February 2016 water bills. Monthly water consumption records shall be obtained by the City of Basehor from both water companies. The City Council determines the rate to be charged per 1,000 gallons.

 

New residents to the City of Basehor which have not established a water usage history of consumption will be charged a median base rate of $49.22 until three full consecutive months of water usage can be provided. Residents are allowed to bring in their three (3) most recent water bills from either Suburban Water or Consolidated Dist. #1 water departments for a re-evaluation of that assigned rate. Detailed policy may be reviewed at City Hall upon request during normal business hours of 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.  

Minimum/Vacant Rate is $18.02 per month.   

                        

Solid Waste Collection / Single Stream Curbside Recycling  Services

All residents of the City must use the solid waste removal company that the city provides to residents.  Currently the solid waste removal services are through Waste Management at a monthly rate of $14.72 for each residential unit. Additional solid waste containers are available for an additional cost of $5.75.  The Private Hauler permit is no longer available and residents are now required to subscribe to city contracted services.  (Ordinance No. 581)                                                   

 

Trash Pickup Schedule:

City Wide Trash/Recycle Pickup is on Wednesdays, Be Sure To Have Tour Carts Out By 7:00 a.m.on the service day.  During the summer months when temperatures are extreme please have the carts out by 6:00 a.m. on service days.  Trash pickup will be delayed to Thursday pickup during the week if any of the holidays listed on the back of the bill card falls on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Please contact the City if you have any trash questions, concerns or problems pertaining to the trash/recycle containers or missed pickups.  Trash stickers for trash overage can be purchased at City Hall. 

 

Payments

Bills are mailed out the end of each month for that month and are due by the 15th of the following month. If not paid by the 15th, a delinquent fee of 10% will be added. Payments (check or money order only) can be mailed or placed in our drop box located in the city hall parking lot. City of Basehor also accepts VISA, MASTERCARD and DISCOVER (processing fees will apply).

The owner or renter of a residence MUST notify the City of any changes to their account (i.e.: for sale, renovation, stopping services, etc) it is the owner or renter’s responsibility to notify the City.

Curbside Trash Services
The City of Basehor has a contract with Waste Management to provide solid waste disposal services using automated poly-carts which allow for more efficient service and a clean look for our city. Trash & recycling service has a combined monthly rate of $14.72. Basehor residents within the city limits receive a 95 gallon trash cart and a 65 gallon recycling cart with a yellow lid from Waste Management which the city provides. These carts must be used to ensure pick-up. Position your trash and recycling carts with the handles facing your house side-by-side and at least 3 feet apart and 1 foot from the curb and they must be out by 7:00 am on solid waste pick up day. Trash must be placed in plastic bags inside the large black lidded poly-cart. Any bags (33 gallons or less) which do not fit inside the cart require overflow waste stickers which are available for $1.25 each or in sheets of ten for $12.50 which can be purchased at Basehor City Hall.

What day do I need my trash & recycling curbside?

Yard Debris
Residents can put up to 10 bags (paper bags only) or bundles of yard waste per week at the curb on the same side as the trash. Branches and tree limbs should be cut into lengths of 4 feet with a diameter of 4 inches or less. Bundles should be tied not to exceed 18 inches in diameter or 65 lbs. Yard waste will not be taken from a container. No dirt or rocks. Tree branches may also be discarded at the City's waste water treatment plant every 2nd Saturday of every month from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. See Ordinance 643

Bulky Items & Special Pick-Up
Residents are allowed one (1) large item per week, per house. Bulky items allowed for collection include: small household appliances, washers, dryers, chairs and mattresses. Recycling Services
Basehor residents receive a 65 gallon recycling cart with a yellow lid from Waste Management. The recycling poly-cart will be picked up on the normal trash day. Position your recycling cart with the handle facing the house at least 3 feet from the trash poly-cart and 1 foot from the curb. All recyclables should be placed loosely inside the cart not in bags. Acceptable recyclables include newspaper, magazines, cereal boxes, soda cartons and plastics labeled with the numbers 1-7. The Basehor Community Garden, sponsored by Basehor PRIDE, has garden plots available for interested community members. The Community Garden is located on the north end of the Basehor City Park. Plots are available in two sizes for the 2017 growing season:  4 x 8 raised gardens and 10 x 21 ground plots. Garden members will have access to water on site and use of the storage shed where tools are stored for their use. Plots can be reserved on a “first-come, first-served basis” and are available for individuals and/or groups. If you’re interested in reserving a plot, please contact Basehor PRIDE Community Garden Chairman Lew Lewis by This email address is being protected from spambots.
